- The $8,000 tax credit is available for first-time home buyers only (have not owned a home in 3 years).
- The $6,500 tax credit is available for those who have owned and occupied a primary residence for a period of five consecutive years during the last eight years.
- For qualified service members who are ordered on a official extended duty, the tax credit applies
to sales with a binding sales contract in place on or before April 30, 2011 and closed by June 30,
2011.
- Single taxpayers with incomes up to $125,000 and married couples with incomes up to $225,000
qualify for the full tax credit. The credit is less if you exceed these income restrictions.
- The tax credit does not have to be repaid unless it ceases to be your primary residence within 3
years of purchase. However, for qualified service members who sell or move from a tax credit
home within three years of the initial purchase due to official extended duty are exempt from
repayment.
